Great. Car accident number one. I was sure it wasn't going to happen to me. Not while I was sixteen, for crying out loud. I mean, I have to go at least a year with my license before I get in a wreck!
Didn't happen.
My cousin, Nicole, my sister, and I were headed to Water World. I was driving, because Nicole is not used to driving in the city. We had to take Sheridan to 92nd. I was driving on Sheridan, and had been for ten minutes or so. I had no clue if I was getting close to 92nd or not. At that point, I was on unknown terrain. I asked Nicole to hand me our Mapquest map so I could see if it included any other cross-streets on it. I looked at the map, and then decided I needed to focus on driving, and handed it to Jalena. "Are there any other cross-streets mentioned on the map?" I asked. Then, I could know where I was and if I was close or not. She was looking, and then the Ford truck right in front of my made a sudden stop. I was only going about thirty or even less, but I had to slam my brakes. Yet, that wasn't quite enough. I was almost stopped...if I had had two more feet, I would have stopped. I was going very, very slowly, but just fast enough to wedge my car under his, puncture my radiator, and shatter my left headlight. I screamed, and so did Jalena and Nicole. And for a moment, we just sat there, flabbergasted. The guy in the truck didn’t pull over. He just put on his hazard lights, and then came out to see if we were alright. We got out, and looked at the car. Oh, crap. I had antifreeze all over the street. My radiator was shot. And it was impossible to open my hood. I panicked. I called my parents. They weren’t happy, let me tell you. I’m not happy, either. I’ve got $1500 of damage to pay for now. That means I must go get a job. Whoopie doo dah day. I’m just really glad no one was hurt, though. Really glad. Thank God! I mean, it could have been a lot worse. My airbags didn’t even go out. That was a relief, also, since each one costs a hundred bucks to get put back in. Well, now I just take each day as it comes. And try to get my financial situation up there so I can fix my car. Whew! What a day!
